The Journey of Wire
Chapter 1 - My Home
My name is Wire, I’m a Server. I live in the House which is a dimension that is a giant house. The Servers are a species that serve the Main-Frame, an all knowing device, also we don’t have genders like some other weird people do. Now onto me. I am almost 6120 days old. Back then I was in training to be an electrician to the Main-Frame like my guardian. On the day it all happened my guardian was working on a strange electrical surge to the Main-Frame…
Chapter 2 - The Disappearance
Me and my siblings were in the school room when word came that there had been an explosion at the Main-Frame. Because of the danger that explosions could happen in other places, we evacuated to the medievally decorated hallway. I felt relieved because the evacuation had interrupted my least favorite class. But then a serious Main-Frame worker shouldered through the crowd towards me.
“Are you Wire?” the Main-Frame worker said.
“Yes I am.” I replied “What’s wrong?”
“Your guardian and some other workers were working on the Main-Frame when it exploded, we can’t find them.”
I followed the worker almost in shock, without a guardian I would be sent to a orphanage with peeling wallpaper and tiny, horrible rooms.
When I reached the Main-Frame room I stared at the Main-Frame screen, it was black, which meant something was very wrong. Normally it had the weird sphere with symbols on the screen. After noticing this, I then stared at the burnt side room where my guardian worked. The side room was completely charred, and though there was normally humming electrical cords, there was now nothing.
A higher-up looking worker came and talked to the worker that was escorting us. I snuck forward to listen.
“So, any news about the missing workers?” our escorter whispered.
“The Main-Frame showed a page about some sort of electrical demon right before the explosion.” the other worker replied. “We assume the demons caused the explosion and took the workers.”
“Will we look for the missing workers?” our escorter asked.
“No, they were not amazingly good - we can replace them easily.”
Chapter 3 - The Runaway
A week later I was in the orphanage, It was then worse than I had ever heard! I had decided that I had to find my guardian to save myself from the horrible conditions. I went to the orphanage library to find out where the electrical demons lived. I learned that the demons are called Sparks, and they lived at the main generator room - two floors down and many miles of hallways away! I decided to find my guardian. I grabbed food from the kitchen and packed it in a bag. I sneaked down the hallway avoiding the hall monitors, then sneaked out to the main hallway. I brought out the map and started walking.
Chapter 4 - Bryan
I had walked for a while and was halfway to the nearest elevator when I saw a figure down a side hallway.
“Hello! Who is there?” I yelled.
The figure started walking towards me. I backed away - bodily harm wouldn’t help me find my parent.
“Don’t be afraid” The figure said “My name’s Bryan. What’s yours?”
“My name is Wire” I replied.
“Nice to meet someone else.” He said.
“Well, you have met someone, now farewell” I replied.
“Wait!” He shouts than throws a strange metal cylinder to me “This may save your life one day.”
He then walked down the hallway and I never saw him again.
Chapter 5 - My First Spark
As I continued walking I examined the metal cylinder, I saw that it was wider at the top then the bottom at the top was made of glass. I also saw a switch on the side and flipped it. The top lit up! I stared, amazed. The light was almost like the electrical lights back home but portable. It didn’t turn off at night.
I took out my map and realized that the elevator was just ahead, I stepped in and set the dial for floor 673 and stepped back as the doors closed, only then did I realize that I was not alone. I turned around and shone my cylinder on it. The creature was made up of twisted wires that made the form of a heavyset man. The creature had two light bulbs that glowed faintly for eyes and small zaps of electricity coming from it’s fingers. I realized that it looked like the picture of a spark the Main-Frame displayed.
After thinking this, I realized that the Spark was trying to attack me but was repulsed by the cylinder. I attacked using the cylinder as a weapon, the Spark tried to fend off my attacks but the cylinder seemed to draw the electricity from it’s body. The Spark zapped me several times but it got weaker and weaker before the light drained from it’s eyes.
Chapter 6 - The Blackout
After defeating that spark so easily I calculated that I had a 87% chance of getting my guardian back. The elevator reached the floor I wanted, and I stepped out using my cylinder for light. The hallway was a medieval style with fire torches. I then heard a skittering on the walls. The walls were covered with dinnerplate sized giant hairy tarantulas. By reading the Main-Frame I knew that normally tarantulas would not attack humans, but these were bigger than normal and seemed to be pack hunters. Just to be safe - I ran. The spiders seemed to take this as a challenge and charged. One of the spiders jumped from the wall in front of me, I stumbled back, but the spider grabbed my cylinder. The spider landed on it’s feet and ran off with the cylinder with the other spiders following. I re-calculated that without the cylinder I had a 2.6% chance of getting my guardian back. I decided to go back because I had such a low chance. But when I got back to the elevator it wouldn’t work. The symbol of the Main-Frame was painted on the wall.
I searched for the spiders and eventually found them in a hole in a wall. I crawled in and found that the few that there were only a few spiders, the others evidently were on other tasks. I easily squashed the remaining spiders because they stood in my way. I grabbed my cylinder and continued my journey.
Chapter 7 - The Sparks
By morning I had made it to the Spark room. By peeking inside I saw that the room was very large. It had wires covering the walls and ceiling. The floor was made of metal and was dull gray. There were many Sparks walking around the room. In one corner there was a cage with my guardian and several other servers in it. In another corner there was one Spark who was bigger, -9M ad four arms, and was made out of gold colored wires.
I decided the best course of action would be to sneak around the edge of the room to avoid being seen. Unfortunately one of the sparks saw me before I could do this. Then the Sparks attacked. I charged using my cylinder to drain them as I did the one on the elevator. It was a frenzy of sparks and Sparks. I could only see wires. I was shocked again and again by the fingers of the Sparks. I tried to hold the cylinder against them for as long as I could and soon there was only the gold one left. I charged at him as well, but his four arms delivered more shocks than the normal ones. However, soon I overpowered him and he sunk to the floor.
“Wait.” he said “The Main-Frame is…”
Then he died.
The Ending
I unlocked my guardian’s cage and we went home. My guardian told me that the reason for the kidnapping was a secret important discovery made.
Note: This manuscript was found on a corpse of a server after the Main-Frame wars. The “discovery” was likely the superweapon. Without this child war could have been averted.
